Ingredients
Vodka: Vodka is the backbone of this shot, providing a smooth flavor and an earthy base that provides balance to the bright citrus notes. Plus, it gives the Lemon Drop Shot its iconic kick!
Lemon Juice: This tart ingredient brings out the sweetness of the vodka and simple syrup. It adds a sharp, citrusy note that will tantalize your taste buds and awaken your senses!
Simple Syrup: Simple syrup rounds out this shot, providing a sugary sweetness that softens the bite of the lemon juice. It also helps to bind all of these flavors together for a truly balanced Lemon Drop Shot.
Instructions
Making a fantastic lemon drop shot is an easy skill anyone can master.
In a shaker add in your vodka, lemon juice and simple syrup. Shake well for 30 seconds.
If you don't have a shaker you can just as easily mix everything in a large glass.
If you want to rim the glass, rum a lemon wedge around the edge of the glass. Or dip the rim in a shallow dish of lemon juice.
Then dip in loose sugar to coat the rim. It adds an extra bit of flair and the sweet rim pairs great with the tart drink.
Finally, divide the lemon drop mixture amongst 4 or 5 shot glasses and garnish.
Ways to Garnish a Lemon Drop Shot
Lemon: Enhance both the flavor and presentation of your lemon drop shot by adding a twisted lemon peel as garnish on top of the drink. Or use a lemon slice or wedge on the top of your shot. It's my personal favorite way to garnish a lemon drop.
Sugar Rim: Create a sugar rim for your shot by wetting the edge of the shot glass with a lime wedge and then dipping it in a plate of fresh white granulated sugar.
Mint Leaf: Add an extra zesty flavor to your lemon shot by adding a mint leaf to the drink before consuming it.
Citrus Wheel: Make your lemon drop shot look attractive and delicious by adding a thin citrus wheel to the outside of the shot glass as garnish.
Top Tips
Don't want to use simple syrup? You can opt out of the simple syrup and place a sugar cube into each shot glass.
If this is the case, increase the lemon juice to 4 ounces instead of using simple syrup. However, the sugar doesn't mix as well as the simple syrup. But it does make for a more fun-looking shot.
If you're interested in another variation, try replacing the simple syrup with 2 ounces of lemon-lime soda.
If you want your Lemon Drop Shot to be ice cold, then try shaking it with a few cubes of ice – but do it lightly or the cocktail may become too frothy. Or, if your ingredients are already chilled, no need to bother with shaking, just pour and enjoy!
